The Faroese parliament has started the first phase of replacing the exterior cladding on its annex building, following the signing of contracts for the 34.2 million krona project, public broadcaster KVF reports.

Work on the building’s facade—referred to internally as the “cladding”—comes after two glass panels detached and fell in summer 2023, one onto Tinghúsvegur and another toward Vaglin. All remaining panels were subsequently removed for safety. A parliamentary committee approved funding last December to fully replace the cladding under updated building regulations, ensuring improved energy efficiency while preserving the original architectural design.

Landsverk, the Faroese public works agency, awarded the contract to construction firm Kanjon after a competitive tender. The first phase, now underway, will continue until October or November, with the remaining work—including reinstalling the glass panels—scheduled for next year.

Parliament speaker Johan Dahl confirmed to KVF that while price increases remain possible in the current economic climate, the budget accounts for potential adjustments.
