The lawyer for one of the minors suspected in the 17 May violence in Bergen has confirmed that the suspect is filing a police complaint against Frp politician Jon Helgheim for sharing an unblurred image of the minors, Dagbladet reports.

Advokat Alexander Gonzalo Sele, the defence lawyer for one of the suspects, said the complaint will likely be submitted on Tuesday. “Helgheim is reported because he published this video unblurred. Helgheim is a man with many followers, so after the video was published, both the full name and address of the client were posted, and he experienced much harassment and threats directly,” Sele told Bergensavisen.

Helgheim, who chairs the Storting’s justice committee, shared a screenshot from a six-second video on Thursday showing four youths attacking a russ (a high school graduation celebrant) in central Bergen on 17 May. In his Facebook post, he initially wrote that “it is a typical pattern” where gangs with immigrant backgrounds “attack, rob and beat up lone Norwegian boys”. He later blurred the image. Four boys under 18 are suspects in the case.

Police have identified the four minors and questioned one of them. “He connects himself to the incident and has explained a background. I will not say more about that because we have questioned all,” police official Søfteland told Dagbladet. The suspect’s lawyer, Tiril Olin Vestre Røkke, said her client has described something that happened beforehand and admitted to hitting the victim. She said the minor has received threats and that his address and full name have been published online. Another lawyer, Jørgen Riple, confirmed to Bergensavisen on Friday evening that his client will also report Helgheim.

Drone attack claims in Luhansk

Russia has accused Ukraine of carrying out a large-scale drone attack against a dormitory connected to a school or college in the city of Starobilsk in the Russian-occupied Luhansk region overnight Friday, according to Dagbladet. Russian authorities claim four people were killed and many wounded, with rescue work ongoing. The claims could not be independently verified.

Ukraine’s military denied the Russian allegations on Friday afternoon, calling them lies, and said it had struck a drone command centre in the city. Russian authorities have released videos and photos purporting to show rescue efforts. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the alleged attack as a “brutal crime”.

President Vladimir Putin on Friday claimed six people were killed and 39 wounded, with 15 missing. He called the attack a “terror attack” against civilians and promised revenge. “This was not an accident,” Putin said according to Reuters. “I have asked the defence ministry to look at various options for retaliatory strikes.” Ukrainian forces are attempting to recapture territory in Luhansk.
