Fulmar chick hunting will not be registered this year because the regulation governing the reporting system has not yet been published, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Last spring, the Løgting approved changes requiring all bird hunting, including the hunting of fulmar chicks, to be registered and reported. Anyone planning to hunt fulmar chicks or other birds must report their catch to Havstovan.

However, the regulation setting out how people should submit reports and how hunting figures should be published has still not been drafted and issued. Havstovan said registration can begin as soon as the regulation is published.

Jacob Vestergaard, the minister responsible, said the matter was new to him and that the regulation was expected to be published this year. Fulmar hunting will nevertheless not be registered in 2026, despite the requirement in the bird-hunting law.
