Danish farmer uncertain over next year’s crops due to government deadlock
A Danish cattle farmer says the country’s prolonged lack of a functioning government has left him unsure what crops he can legally plant next season, DR reports.
The farmer, who relies on government subsidies and regulations to plan his harvests, told the broadcaster he does not know which crops will be permitted under next year’s agricultural policies—or how he will be compensated. Without clarity, he risks sowing fields with crops that may later be restricted or unsupported.
Denmark has been without a fully empowered government since its most recent election, delaying key decisions on farming subsidies and land-use rules. The uncertainty comes as farmers must soon finalise planting plans for the 2027 growing season.
