Turku’s Fuuga music house to open with month-long festival

Turku’s new Fuuga music house will open to the public on October 26, Yle reports. The building, constructed on Itsenäisyydenaukio square on the east bank of the Aura River, is expected to host a month-long opening festival.

Fuuga includes a 1,300-seat concert hall, a 300-seat multipurpose hall, a restaurant open daily and a rooftop terrace with gardens. Construction began in early autumn 2023.

Music house director Samppa Rinne said the opening carnival would begin on Monday, October 26. The building and its restaurant are expected to open officially between 10 a.m. and noon, although the exact time has not yet been confirmed.

Public tours will also be arranged during the opening week.

Karita Mattila to headline opening concert

Soprano Karita Mattila will appear as the soloist with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra at the official opening concert on November 12. The programme will include works by Wagner and Sibelius.

The Ateljee Hall will open during the preceding week with chamber music performances.

Fuuga’s autumn programme will also feature music beyond classical concerts, including performances by Robin Packalen and Pepe Willberg.
