Finland’s largest road transport completes 30 km journey with 500-ton LNG tank
A massive liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage tank—weighing 500,000 kilograms—has successfully completed a 30-kilometer overnight transport from Teuva to the port of Kaskinen, Finnish public broadcaster Yle reports. The 15-hour operation, described as Finland’s largest-ever road transport, proceeded without incident.
The 15-meter-wide and 14-meter-tall tank, moved at walking speed by the Pori-based specialty transport firm Vuorsola, arrived at its destination Friday morning. The route was temporarily closed to other traffic during the transfer. Crowds gathered along the way, particularly at the departure point in Teuva, with onlookers described as orderly and cooperative.
“Everything went as planned,” said Elina Hassinen, deputy managing director of Vuorsola. “The audience followed instructions well, and a few even called to ask about alternative routes for their commute.”
The tank will next be loaded onto an open-deck vessel at Kaskinen’s port using ramps, bound for Meyer Turku shipyard. A second identical transport is scheduled for July, with Hassinen noting that only minor adjustments, if any, will be needed based on this operation’s success. Planning for the move took a full year.
The LNG tank is part of a larger project linked to Meyer Turku’s shipbuilding operations, though further details were not provided in the report.
