Faroe Islands delays critical infrastructure mapping until 2027
The Faroese Telecommunications Authority will postpone its mapping and scanning of critical infrastructure networks until 31 May 2027, the government announced Thursday.
According to a report by Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya, the current legal framework for the project expires on 31 May this year. A proposed extension, debated earlier in parliament, failed to pass.
The authority had been tasked with documenting and assessing key infrastructure to inform upcoming cybersecurity legislation. Officials stated that insights from the mapping process have been “significant” in shaping the draft law, which the Ministry of Industry aims to introduce in the next parliamentary session.
Under existing regulations, the Telecommunications Authority retains the power to request any data it deems relevant to the mapping effort. The working group behind the initiative was established in 2024 following a government agreement.
