Finland updates miscarriage care guidelines with focus on mental health support
The Finnish Medical Society Duodecim has updated its clinical guidelines for miscarriage care, placing greater emphasis on empathetic patient encounters and psychological support, state news agency STT reports.
The revised recommendations highlight the importance of adequate pain management and follow-up examinations at maternal health clinics. According to Duodecim, grief, depression, and anger are common emotional responses after miscarriage, and healthcare providers should not downplay these reactions.
A miscarriage is defined in the guidelines as the loss of a pregnancy before the 22nd week of gestation.
