Man arrested in Pori on suspicion of aggravated false imprisonment, assault, and extortion
A man in his 30s has been detained in Pori, western Finland, on suspicion of aggravated false imprisonment, aggravated assault, and extortion, Yle reports.
The suspect is accused of holding a person against their will in a private residence in Pori last Saturday. Police allege the man also committed aggravated assault and extortion, before fleeing from officers at high speed in a car belonging to the victim.
Investigators believe multiple individuals were involved in the incident, though their roles are considered less significant than that of the detained suspect. According to Jari Klaus, lead investigator and detective chief inspector at the Southwest Finland Police Department, a non-bladed, non-firearm object was allegedly used in the assault.
The detained man faces additional charges for a series of offences reportedly committed between January and May of this year, including false imprisonment, robbery, aggravated firearms violations, and multiple assaults. Police sought his detention to disrupt the alleged crime spree and prevent further offences.
The Satakunta District Court ordered the man’s detention on Wednesday following a police request.
