Three individuals have been evacuated following a landslide in Jotunheimen National Park in Norway. The incident occurred this afternoon in the mountainous area between the two tourist cabins, Memurubu and Gjendesheim, in Vågå municipality.

According to police, the evacuated people were not in direct contact with the landslide. Hikers in the vicinity alerted authorities, prompting a rescue operation. Emergency teams from the police, fire department, and the Red Cross are currently on-site.

Efforts are underway to assess the extent of the landslide. Authorities have indicated that the landslides identified have mainly affected creek valleys, involving soil and rock. No significant large-scale slides have been observed at this time. However, police noted that rockfalls may also have occurred in the area.

The situation is considered serious due to the presence of individuals in a landslide zone, but authorities believe the impact may be less severe than initially feared.

Access to the hiking trail near the landslide, which runs along the water beneath Besseggen, has been closed off. Signs indicating the closure have been placed on the trail between Memurubu and Gjendesheim. The municipality has been informed to assess the situation further.

As of 5:12 PM, authorities reported that no un-evacuated individuals have been spotted in the area. Three people were evacuated while another three left the location on their own. Heavy rainfall has been reported in the region since earlier today, although meteorologists suggest the weather may improve this evening.
