Danish public broadcaster bans weight-loss drug Wegovy in reality show Fede forhold
Danish public broadcaster DR has excluded the weight-loss drug Wegovy from its reality show Fede forhold (“Fat Relationships”), despite the medication’s growing popularity for rapid weight reduction. The programme, now in its seventh season, continues to focus on traditional lifestyle changes—diet, exercise, and habit formation—rather than pharmaceutical solutions.
Pia Norup, the show’s physician, argues that Wegovy does not address broader health concerns. “You don’t gain better fitness, muscle mass, sleep, or relationships. Health is more than just reducing fat mass, BMI, or body fat percentage—and that’s not automatically achieved by taking Wegovy,” she told DR’s P1 Morgen.
Participants Jacob Bagger and Kristine Berner from South Zealand previously tried Wegovy but found it ineffective long-term. “The weight we lost came back quickly because our habits hadn’t changed. We just ate smaller portions,” Berner said. After joining the programme, they achieved sustainable weight loss through lifestyle adjustments, gaining confidence in managing their health independently.
Norup emphasised that while Wegovy offers a “quick fix” for weight loss, lasting health requires broader changes. “It’s not about being thin—it’s about being strong, energetic, and in balance,” she said. Bagger agreed, noting the programme’s approach didn’t feel like a diet but a sustainable transformation.
