Faroese consumer ombudsman again proposes dispute resolution board for complaints
The Faroese Consumer Ombudsman has once more recommended establishing a mediation and consumer complaints board to handle disputes over purchases and services, according to its 2025 annual report published by public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The proposal, which resurfaces after a similar 2014 initiative, comes as the ombudsman highlights that consumers currently have no formal body to resolve complaints, leaving them to pursue costly and time-consuming legal action.
“People who face issues with a purchase often have no choice but to take the matter to court, which can be both slow and expensive,” the ombudsman stated.
The office recorded 192 cases in 2025, down from 229 in 2024.
