Police investigate two new assaults during far-right march in Tampere
Police in Tampere are investigating two additional assaults linked to a far-right May Day march organised by the Sinimusta liike (Blue-Black Movement), bringing the total number of assault cases under investigation to three, national broadcaster Yle reports.
One of the new suspected assaults occurred at Keskustori (Central Square), where participants in the Sinimusta liike march are accused of attacking a counter-protester who had blown a horn at them. Detective Chief Inspector Pasi Nieminen confirmed to Yle that this is the same incident captured in Yle’s footage, showing a masked marcher kicking the counter-protester during the altercation.
The second new case took place on Tuomiokirkonkatu, where police suspect three individuals sprayed gas at a man associated with the Sinimusta liike march and assaulted him, causing facial injuries.
A third assault investigation, previously reported by Yle, involves allegations that a group of marchers attacked a young woman on Hämeenkatu.
Police have identified some suspects in the cases, while other investigations remain ongoing. Authorities possess video evidence of the alleged assaults.
No further crime reports related to the march or counter-protests have been filed.
Seven individuals were detained during the event to prevent disturbances—four counter-protesters and three participants in the Sinimusta liike gathering. Two counter-protesters were reported for resisting police, while a marcher was reported for possessing brass knuckles. Another participant was reported for reckless handling of an open flame after setting a banner alight with a torch.
Minor offences have resulted in fines, with those investigations concluded or nearing completion.
