A fire at a recycling centre in Oulu’s Toppila district has sent thick black smoke billowing across a wide area of the city, according to public broadcaster Yle.

The blaze, reported at around 6:47 PM local time, involves three containers in the yard of a facility on Messipojantie street. The local rescue department confirmed the fire and said crews are working to extinguish it.

Yle’s reporter at the scene described heavy smoke rising from the burning containers. Authorities have warned that smoke from the fire is spreading south of Oulu’s city centre.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
