Thursday 15th October 2026 on 15:31 in Iceland

Iceland, parliament, Viðreisn

Jón Gnarr has left the parliamentary group of Viðreisn, mbl.is reports. Parliament is due to meet at 1.30pm, when his departure is expected to be announced at the start of the session.

The move reduces Viðreisn’s parliamentary group from 11 members to 10. The governing parties entered office with 36 MPs and now have 34. A majority in Parliament requires 32 MPs.

Guðmundur Ingi Kristinsson left the People’s Party in April but has declared his support for the government. If Gnarr does not join another party, two MPs will be outside parliamentary groups.
