A sharp cold front will bring temperatures down to around 10°C across Norway this week, following last week’s summer-like warmth, meteorologists report.

After much of the country enjoyed temperatures above 20°C last week, a shift in weather patterns will bring significantly cooler and wetter conditions, Dagbladet reports. A high-pressure system over the North Atlantic is pushing cold air southward, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures nationwide.

“Temperatures will be on a completely different level,” said duty meteorologist Espen Biseth Granan. Areas in southern Norway that saw summer-like warmth will now experience daytime highs around 10°C, with occasional rain showers.

The western coast and Trøndelag region will see the most dramatic change, with prolonged rain expected in Bergen. Northern areas, including Tromsø and Finnmark, as well as mountainous regions in the south, may see sleet or snow. Authorities have issued a yellow weather alert for snow showers and hazardous driving conditions in some areas.

Granan advised drivers—especially those who have already switched to summer tires—to check road conditions carefully, as icy patches are likely.

Despite the sudden shift, the meteorologist noted that last week’s warmth was the anomaly, not the upcoming chill. “We’re still in early May, so there’s no reason to despair,” he said.
