Southern Norway is set for unusually high temperatures this week, with forecasts predicting up to 25°C in some regions, Dagbladet reports.

Meteorologists warn that long-standing local heat records could fall in inland areas of Telemark, Buskerud, Agder, and Akershus. The 1993 record of 24.9°C in Gvarv, Telemark, may be surpassed, according to Sigrid Marie Vildskog Auganæs of the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.

“County-level records could be broken, particularly in Agder and Telemark,” Auganæs told Dagbladet on Thursday. While not guaranteed, she noted the possibility remains.

The meteorologist advised residents to prepare for the sudden shift from winter conditions to summer-like heat by drinking plenty of water, wearing light-colored clothing, and using high-factor sunscreen. UV levels are expected to reach 4 on Thursday and Friday, necessitating SPF 30 or higher for adequate protection.

Meanwhile, northern Norway—particularly eastern Finnmark—will remain below freezing. A weekend cooldown is forecast nationwide, with snow expected in the north and overcast skies in the south before sunshine returns to southernmost regions on Sunday.
