Near-record April temperatures forecast for southern Norway
Southern Norway is set for unseasonably warm weather this week, with temperatures potentially reaching 25°C (77°F) in some areas, according to forecasts reported by Dagbladet.
Meteorologists predict the warmest conditions on Thursday and Friday, though Wednesday and Saturday will also see above-average temperatures. The highest readings are expected inland in eastern regions, with local forecasts suggesting up to 26°C in Notodden and 29°C in Dalen, both in Telemark county.
If confirmed, 29°C would break Norway’s April heat record of 27°C, set in Sarpsborg in 2000. However, Siri Wiberg, a duty meteorologist at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, cautioned that current models show slightly lower projections of 25–26°C for those areas.
“We’ll be monitoring closely, but beating the national record will be difficult,” Wiberg said. “Local records, though—like Agder’s 24.4°C—could well be surpassed.”
The warmth extends to western Norway, where coastal areas may hit 20°C, while central regions will see milder conditions around 15°C. Northern Norway, however, faces a stark contrast: colder air arriving by Sunday could bring snow to many areas.
