A Faroese politician has revised his earlier claim about warning the prime minister’s office regarding a major fine against salmon producer Bakkafrost, national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya reports.

In 2021, Michael Boolsen, then a member of the Faroese parliament (Løgtingið), stated he had informed the prime minister about a planned 67 million krona fine from the Health Directorate against Bakkafrost. He now says he did not warn the political leadership—only the prime minister’s office.

When questioned last week on public radio, Boolsen clarified that he had spoken to the prime minister’s chief of staff, not the prime minister directly, in a December 2021 call. However, call records from the prime minister’s office indicate Boolsen believed the prime minister should be aware of the matter.

The case was discussed in the radio program Breddan, with the full segment available on Kringvarp Føroya’s website.
