Car fire after collision in Vihti leaves one seriously injured
A car burst into flames following a traffic collision in Vihti, southern Finland, late Monday evening, leaving one person with severe injuries, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
Emergency services from Western Uusimaa Rescue Department confirmed that a second person sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital for further treatment.
According to duty fire chief Dan Karvonen, one of the two petrol-powered vehicles involved in the collision caught fire. The first rescue unit arrived at the scene within minutes of the alert.
“The entire car was essentially engulfed in flames like a torch,” Karvonen told Yle. He described the incident as “a bit like a movie scene where one car bursts into flames.”
The collision occurred on Haapakyläntie, a residential road leading from Lohjanharju with a 40 km/h speed limit. Bystanders managed to pull the seriously injured person from the burning vehicle before emergency services arrived.
Police and the Accident Investigation Board are examining the cause of the crash and the fire. Karvonen declined to speculate on why the fire spread so intensely.
