A newly unveiled bronze sculpture in Oyndarfjørður, created by Faroese artist Lív Eidesgaard, stands as a tribute to her five-year-old son Sjúrð, who drowned years earlier, reports Kringvarp Føroya.

The artwork, titled Vónarinnar ljós (Light of Hope), was revealed in a ceremony attended by hundreds. The piece—a bronze “rock” embedded with glass elements, including a window through which light passes when the sun is in the south—marks Eidesgaard’s first work in bronze, a medium she explored specifically for this project.

Primarily a painter, Eidesgaard also has experience in glasswork. The sculpture’s creation became a deeply emotional process for her and her family, rooted in grief over Sjúrð’s death. The unveiling took place in Oyndarfjørður, where the artwork now stands as a public memorial.
