Four drivers were charged with using mobile phones to take pictures of the scene after an Eimskip transport truck trailer overturned on a ramp from Reykjanesbraut into Ártúnsbrekka on Wednesday morning, mbl.is reports.

The diesel-powered truck trailer was carrying, among other things, timber and insulation wool. It has since been removed, but the ramp was closed for about six hours while the operation was carried out.

Árni Friðleifsson, chief superintendent with the capital area police traffic division, said traffic moved well despite the closure because good detours were available in the area.

He said many passing motorists had used their phones to take pictures or record video of the scene. Four drivers were charged with using mobile phones while driving.

“It is intolerable when the police are working at a scene and people drive past taking photographs or videos on their phones, especially when there has been a personal injury accident,” Árni told mbl.is.
