A major fire has erupted at a recycling station in Borgeskogen, Sandefjord, with authorities warning residents to close windows and doors due to heavy smoke, reports Dagbladet.

The blaze, described as intense by emergency responders, involves around 600 tonnes of residual waste. A 300-metre safety perimeter has been established, and smoke is reportedly visible within a one-mile radius, according to NRK.

Police have urged residents north of the fire to keep windows and doors shut. Eyewitness Egil Beril-Johnsen, who was passing by on his way to training, told Dagbladet that the situation appeared calm but that the status of the fire remained unclear. He advised avoiding the northern part of the Borgeskogen industrial area to allow emergency services to operate.

Later updates confirmed that access to the site had been completely blocked, with police stationed at both entrances to Borgeskogen North and South.

The cause of the fire has not yet been reported.
