Police warn of new scam targeting bank card details and money
Finnish police are investigating a new fraud method after two men allegedly stole an elderly victim’s bank card details and withdrew up to €30,000, public broadcaster Yle reports.
The suspects visited the victim’s home in Seinäjoki on Saturday, offering to demonstrate a “new way to use a bank card.” One of the men photographed the victim’s card with a mobile phone before both left the residence. Later that day, the victim discovered their card was declined and a large sum had been withdrawn from their account.
Authorities suspect the same men had previously approached a neighbour of the victim. The pair, described as one around 50 years old and another younger, were seen driving a light-coloured car. Police believe they may have targeted multiple locations in the Seinäjoki area.
The case is being investigated as aggravated fraud. Police urge the public to remain vigilant and never share personal, banking, or payment card details with unknown individuals, whether online or in person. Witnesses with information about the incident are asked to contact authorities.
