Faroese coast guard responds to three distress calls in one night
The Faroese Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) received three separate distress calls overnight, including a report of a flare sighting, according to a statement released Sunday.
At midnight, MRCC was alerted that a flare had been spotted. A helicopter from Atlantic Airways was dispatched to search the area, though nothing unusual was found, the centre reported.
In the early hours of Sunday, a fishing vessel near Fugloy reported engine trouble and requested assistance. The rescue vessel Ziska was sent to tow the boat to Hvannasund.
Later in the morning, a second boat ran aground near Glyvursnes. The rescue boat Lív towed it to Álasker harbour in Tórshavn. A third vessel, experiencing mechanical issues, was also towed from near Skansabryggja to the same harbour by Lív in the late afternoon.
All operations were coordinated by MRCC, which confirmed no injuries in any of the incidents.
