Two minors suspected of crimes at Ilves vs Tappara playoff game
Two individuals under the age of 18 are suspected of offences during a Finnish ice hockey playoff match between Ilves and Tappara in Tampere on Saturday, reports Yle.
Police interrupted the game after illegal pyrotechnics were set off in the Ilves supporters’ section just minutes into the first period, causing a ten-minute delay. Detective Inspector Sami Suhonen of the Central Finland Police confirmed the suspects face preliminary charges of disorderly conduct, reckless handling, and resisting an official maintaining public order.
“The disorderly conduct charge stems from one suspect refusing to provide personal details to police at the scene,” Suhonen stated.
Authorities have not yet determined the exact type of pyrotechnic devices used. Suhonen noted that the charges may be adjusted as the investigation progresses, based on witness statements and surveillance footage.
When asked how the devices bypassed security checks, Suhonen declined to speculate, stating only that pyrotechnics vary in size and form. He emphasised the severe safety risk posed by open flames in an indoor arena with flammable materials and large crowds.
“Common sense makes it clear there was a real danger of injury or property damage,” he added.
The incident remains under active investigation.
