A sharp drop in temperatures and strong winds will sweep across Norway on Saturday as Arctic air moves southward, temporarily ending the recent spring warmth, Dagbladet reports.

The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow warning for strong winds in parts of eastern Norway, with gusts expected to reach 17–19 metres per second in the afternoon before easing in the evening. “The wind will be noticeable across much of eastern Norway, particularly in areas where northerly winds are typically felt,” said duty meteorologist Johanne Ordahl. “It will blow directly down the Oslofjord, which may feel quite harsh.”

Temperatures will fall significantly compared to earlier in the week, with southern Norway seeing highs around 15°C, while central regions hover near 5°C and northern areas drop to around freezing. The cold front will also bring sleet and snow showers to northern Norway.

The weather shift is expected to be brief, however. “From Sunday onward, a high-pressure system will build in the south, bringing calmer winds and rising temperatures,” Ordahl added.

Authorities have advised securing loose objects and avoiding unnecessary travel in exposed areas, as roads may close due to fallen trees or debris. Additional yellow warnings remain in effect for grass and heather fires in southern and western Norway, as well as heavy snow in northern regions from Trøndelag to West Finnmark.
