Faroese court system to introduce digital summons and legal notices
The Faroese court system will begin sending summons, notices, and judgments digitally through the government’s secure mailbox service Mínboks, reports Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya. The change follows a government proposal to amend the laws governing the platform to enable legally binding digital communication.
Under the new system, citizens without a Mínboks account—or those who have not authorized a representative to access it—will continue to receive physical mail for such notifications. The digital notices will cover legally significant documents, including court summons, hearing invitations, judgments, and other judicial communications.
The government has initiated the legislative process to formalize the shift, which aligns with broader efforts to modernize administrative procedures in the Faroe Islands.
