Ukraine proposes Turkey as host for Zelensky-Putin peace talks

Ukraine has asked Turkey to host a potential meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a report by Faroese broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya, citing Reuters.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha announced the request at a press briefing, stating that Ukraine is “ready to consider any location for a meeting with Putin—just not in Belarus or Russia.” Sybiha did not disclose Turkey’s response to the proposal.

Neither Turkey nor Russia has publicly commented on the matter. Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that peace negotiations with Ukraine are “not a priority” for Moscow.

The last direct talks between Russia, Ukraine, and the US—mediated by American negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner—collapsed in mid-February amid escalating tensions linked to the Iran conflict. The war in Ukraine has now lasted over four years.
