Police officer in Rovaniemi stops unregistered electric vehicle exceeding speed limits
A motorcycle police officer in Rovaniemi stopped a light electric vehicle on Tuesday morning after observing the electric moped overtaking other traffic on the pedestrian and cycling path. The vehicle was traveling at speeds exceeding 45 km/h, classifying it as a motorcycle. Additionally, it was required to be registered since it surpassed the 25 km/h limit. The driver also lacked the necessary driver’s license.
The driver was issued a fine for operating a vehicle without authorization, endangering traffic safety, and using an unregistered vehicle. Commissioner Marko Hiltula noted that the Lapland police have received several reports regarding similar electric vehicles, but these incidents had not been observed until now. “This time it was a police officer’s own observation made while monitoring traffic,” Hiltula stated.
