Jyllands Park Zoo passes to next generation after 28 years

The only zoo in western Jutland will remain in family hands as its long-time owner retires, reports Danish broadcaster DR.

Ove Nordestgaard, a former banker who has owned and managed Jyllands Park Zoo since 1998, is stepping down. His children, Mathias and Heidi Nordestgaard, will take over operations of the zoo, located west of Herning.

The facility gained national attention last year when a zebra escaped its enclosure. After nearly four days of round-the-clock efforts, staff successfully located the animal.
