Man found deceased in Mustasaari near Raippaluoto harbor
On Wednesday morning, a deceased man was discovered in Mustasaari, approximately one kilometer north of the Raippaluoto harbor. According to maritime rescue director Jim Kvarnström, the deceased was an elderly man from Raippaluoto. The rescue services received the call around 9:30 AM.
Duty fire chief Vesa Berg reported that the man had been fishing at sea and apparently fell overboard for an unknown reason. It is believed that he had not been in the water for long. “According to my information, he was seen fishing on Wednesday morning,” Berg stated.
Jim Kvarnström noted that the fisherman’s boat was seen circling in the water. A bystander approached the scene to check the situation and found the body face down in the water. The bystander called emergency services and held onto the man until rescue personnel arrived on the scene.
Staff from the Vallgrund Coastguard Station and the police also responded to the incident. The first report was given by Vasabladet.
