Olkiluoto 1 nuclear reactor begins 55-day annual maintenance

The Olkiluoto 1 nuclear reactor unit in Finland will begin its annual maintenance on Saturday, operator Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) announced. The 55-day overhaul is scheduled to conclude in mid-June.

Key maintenance tasks include repairs to the turbine condenser’s front chamber, renewal of reactor automation systems, servicing of the high-pressure turbine, and a pressure test of the primary circuit. TVO stated that the extended duration is due to several major work packages and plant modifications.

The maintenance follows the completion of Olkiluoto 2’s ten-day annual overhaul, which ended on Friday.
