Finnish customs complete doping investigation involving suspect from Savonlinna
Finnish customs authorities have completed a preliminary investigation into a serious doping crime that has spanned the past year and a half. A man from Savonlinna, approximately 30 years old, is accused of importing doping substances and their precursor chemicals from China into Finland. Precursors are substances used in the production of drugs, some of which can also be used for medical purposes.
During the investigation, approximately 1,000 vials of doping substances were seized. The suspect reportedly manufactured, bottled, and sold these substances throughout Finland. The case began when the main suspect crashed his vehicle into a guardrail in Rauma in February 2023. Following the incident, he attempted to hide the doping substances in the nearby woods, but authorities discovered and confiscated them from the scene.
In total, six individuals from various locations across Finland, including Savonlinna, Jyväskylä, Turku, Juva, Valkeakoski, and even the United States, are under suspicion. These individuals are believed to have procured, sold, and distributed the doping substances.
The case is being transferred to the prosecutor’s office in Western Finland for further legal action. Notably, this incident is separate from a previous doping-related case involving the same individual in Savonlinna, which is currently being addressed by the South Savonia District Court, with a ruling expected in the fall.
