Faroese patient calls for dialysis treatment in Klaksvík
An 80-year-old man from Klaksvík has urged authorities to provide dialysis treatment at the local hospital, calling the current travel requirements to the capital a “heavy burden,” reports Faroese public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
Ólavur Samson, 80, currently must travel multiple times a week to Tórshavn for life-saving dialysis, a journey he describes as exhausting. “It is a stone on the chest to have to drive for many hours each week to receive essential dialysis treatment,” he said.
Alexandra á Dul, director of Klaksvík Hospital, acknowledged the need, stating that the decision lies with policymakers. “It is a political decision,” she said, adding: “If dialysis was made available in Suðuroy, then it should naturally also be available in Klaksvík.”
