Norway could see 20°C temperatures next week, meteorologists say
Norway’s eastern region may experience summer-like temperatures of up to 20°C next week, according to state meteorologist Rafael Escobar Løvdahl in an interview with Dagbladet.
The forecast marks a shift in weather patterns, with northern Norway enjoying fair conditions this weekend while southern and central regions face rain. From early next week, however, eastern Norway—particularly the Østlandet area—is expected to see the highest temperatures.
“There’s a strong chance we’ll reach up to 20°C in Østlandet next week,” Escobar Løvdahl said. While southern Norway will also see improved weather, coastal areas along the Sørlandet and Vestlandet regions will remain cooler due to low sea temperatures.
The meteorologist described the upcoming conditions as a classic weather divide between the Stadt and Dovre mountain ranges, separating Norway into two distinct climate zones. Areas north of the divide will experience maritime winds and precipitation, while regions to the south—including Østlandet—will enjoy dry, warm weather.
Despite the daytime warmth, Escobar Løvdahl cautioned that nights will remain chilly, even in southern Norway. “I wouldn’t call it full summer yet,” he noted, adding that afternoon highs could briefly hit 20°C in parts of Østlandet.
