Faroese parliament assigns bills to standing committees

The Faroese parliament, the Løgting, has announced how proposed legislation will be distributed among its standing committees, following a decision by Speaker Johan Dahl, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

Legal affairs referred by the attorney general will go to the Judiciary Committee, while foreign trade matters will be handled by the Foreign Affairs Committee. Foreign and fisheries policy bills will be split between the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Industry Committee.

The Finance Committee will review budgetary proposals and draft labour market legislation. The Industry Committee will also address general labour issues, while the Judiciary Committee takes up immigration, integration, and municipal legislation.

Cases from the Social Affairs and Housing Ministry will be directed to the Welfare Committee, though labour market, workplace environment, and unemployment insurance matters will fall under the Judiciary Committee. Health and energy issues will be assigned to the Welfare Committee, while energy, environmental, and construction bills go to the Industry Committee. Education policy will be managed by the Culture Committee.

The Welfare Committee will additionally oversee child and youth welfare cases, and citizenship matters will be handled by the Culture Committee.
