The Faroese brewery Føroya Bjór has been charged with illegally selling spirits to the owner and employees of Essabarr in the port town of Havn, according to a report by Faroese public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.

The prosecution alleges that the brewery sold alcohol intended for visitors to staff at the bar, violating the terms of its licence. Under Faroese regulations, Føroya Bjór is permitted to sell spirits only to tourists, a rule introduced in December 2023. The charges cover sales made “in large quantities” between 11 December 2023 and 29 November 2024.

The brewery denies the allegations. The case will be heard in the Faroese court on Friday, with prosecutors seeking financial penalties.
