The Faroese national broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya (KvF) was hit by a cyberattack last year that temporarily disabled its website during a parliamentary debate on transport policy, according to a report by the broadcaster itself.
The attack, primarily originating from the US, coincided with the presentation of a transport bill in the Faroese parliament, Løgtingið, in early 2025. The website was reportedly down for a period as a result.
Magnus Dam, director of Kringvarp Føroya, confirmed that Danish intelligence had previously warned of threats against KvF ahead of the 2022 general election. While the broadcaster had anticipated potential cyber threats during the election period, Dam clarified that the recent attack was not linked to the election but instead targeted the transport policy debate.
Cyberattacks of this nature are becoming increasingly common, including against institutions in the Faroe Islands, the report noted.
