Seinäjoki secures Finland’s largest land sale for major data centre project
The city of Seinäjoki has finalised its largest-ever land deal, selling a 22.3-hectare plot for nearly €3.9 million to Pure DC Projects Oy for a new data centre, public broadcaster Yle reports. The project, first announced in 2021, represents a €4 billion investment and is expected to create 2,000 construction jobs and 150 permanent positions.
Construction preparations are already underway at the site near the Kivenneva intersection of Peräseinäjoentie and the eastern bypass road, where excavation work is progressing rapidly. Seinäjoki’s mayor, Jaakko Kiiskilä, confirmed the deal on Friday, stating that builders have indicated plans to begin construction “quickly.”
“This is a clear demonstration of commitment to the project,” Kiiskilä said, expressing optimism about its future. The total investment value, including buildings, is approximately €1.2 million.
The data centre’s zoning plan modification was approved by the city council in December 2025, while the building permit—covering 21 structures, including three data halls and supporting facilities with a combined 54,000 square metres of floor space—was processed in February. An environmental permit is still pending.
The facility, located east of the Eskoo interchange, will function as a large-scale server hub, hosting storage systems to process vast amounts of data and enable digital services like cloud computing. The end user of the centre has not been disclosed.
Kiiskilä noted that the project will also generate indirect employment for local contractors. The city previously stated that competitive energy prices would be key to attracting the investment.
