Foreign visitors to the Faroe Islands generated 1.4 billion krona in export value last year, according to new figures from the Faroese statistics agency Hagstova Føroya, as reported by public broadcaster Kringvarp Føroya.
The 2025 total marks a 100 million krona increase from 2024, when tourism accounted for 7.6% of the Faroes’ total exports—making it the third-largest export sector. Visit Faroe Islands attributes the growth to a rise in air travel: 70,000 tourists arrived by plane in 2025, up from 65,000 the previous year, while sea arrivals held steady at 60,000. Overall visitor numbers remained unchanged at around 130,000 annually.
The agency notes that air travellers tend to spend more and stay longer, boosting revenue despite stable arrival figures.
