A new study by the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (Etla) finds that Finnish employees who use artificial intelligence in their work experience greater job engagement and no increased fear of being replaced by technology compared to other workers.

According to the report, the share of Finnish workers concerned about technology replacing their jobs remained nearly unchanged—just under 8 percent—between 2018 and 2023, despite the rapid rise of generative AI during that period.

Unlike international findings, the Etla study observed no link between AI use and heightened fears of technological displacement in Finland. Instead, workers using AI reported higher levels of job engagement, defined as the experience of work as motivating and meaningful.

Etla notes that AI adoption remains limited to a relatively small and select group of employees, primarily in roles involving extensive data processing and already digitalised tasks. As a result, its broader impact on the workforce remains modest.

The findings are based on Etla’s analysis of Finnish workplace trends amid the growing integration of AI tools.
