Colorado beetles found in Hamina, Southeastern Finland, raising concerns for potato crops
Pests destructive to potatoes, known as Colorado beetles, have been discovered in Hamina, Southeastern Finland, according to the Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto). The beetles were found on both a commercial farm and a home garden.
The Food Authority has urged that all potato crops in the Hamina region and its surroundings be closely monitored for these pests. Any sightings should be reported immediately to Ruokavirasto.
The Colorado beetle can be identified by its yellow coloration and black stripes. This pest is not a permanently established species in Finland.
