Man dies in Jyväskylä police detention facility
A man has died in a police detention facility in Jyväskylä, central Finland, according to a report by Finnish public broadcaster Yle. The man was found dead early Sunday morning.
The deceased had been held in custody under a court-ordered deprivation of liberty when he was discovered. The cause of death is under investigation by the Southwest Finland Police Department, and the case has been reported to the national prosecutor’s office.
Under Finnish procedure, deaths occurring during detention are always investigated by a separate police unit from the one where the incident took place. Authorities have not released further details.
