Finland, traffic, weather

Return traffic after the Easter holiday is expected to intensify in Finland on Sunday, with sleet and snow causing poor road conditions in places, reports public broadcaster Yle. The remnants of Storm Dave, which passed through Sweden, are bringing slow-moving precipitation northward from the southwest.

Meteorologist Elias Paakkanen of Yle stated that while winds will strengthen slightly, they will remain far below storm levels. “There will be no storm conditions in Finland,” he clarified. However, drivers are advised to exercise caution, particularly as traffic volumes rise.

According to transport agency Fintraffic, return traffic will gradually increase on Sunday, with peak congestion expected on Monday between 12:00 and 20:00. Rainfall will begin spreading inland on Sunday evening, worsening driving conditions in some areas. Southern regions will see mostly rain, while northern areas may experience sleet or snow.

The weather front will move slowly northward overnight and into Monday, with scattered showers expected in the morning. Temperatures will remain above freezing across most of Finland, except in the far north, with daytime highs reaching around 5ยฐC on Monday.

By Tuesday, the low-pressure system will move away, and high pressure will bring sunnier conditions from midweek onward. Up-to-date weather warnings are available from the Finnish Meteorological Institute, with further forecasts on Yle‘s weather pages.
