Helsinki’s Via Crucis passion play marks 30th anniversary

The traditional Via Crucis – Ristin tie (The Way of the Cross) passion play was performed on Saturday evening in Helsinki’s Senate Square, celebrating its 30th anniversary, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.

The open-air performance, free for all attendees, drew thousands of spectators as in previous years. Actor Anssi Niemi portrayed Jesus, with direction by Markku Arokanto. The production also featured actors from past performances.

Organised by the ecumenical association Via Crucis – Ristin Tien Tuki together with Helsinki Cathedral Parish, the play’s working group includes theatre and music professionals, amateur actors, and parish members.
