Ice angler drowns in Saarijärvi

An ice angler has drowned in Saarijärvi, central Finland, after falling through the ice on Saturday morning, reports Finnish public broadcaster Yle.
Emergency services received an alert just after 11:00 local time about an angler who had gone through the ice on Isolla Hoikanlammella, a lake in the Saarijärvi area. Rescue crews confirmed at midday that a surface recovery operation was underway.
Authorities located the victim approximately ten metres from the shore. Police stated there is no suspicion of foul play, and the investigation will proceed as a standard inquiry into the cause of death.
