The Red Cross team at a mountain station in southern Norway is prepared for extreme weather but will not respond to emergencies if conditions are too dangerous, Dagbladet reports.

Storm Dave is expected to hit Norway on Sunday, with meteorologists issuing red-level extreme weather warnings for parts of Rogaland and Agder. Wind gusts may reach 40–45 m/s in coastal areas, with widespread severe winds across southern Norway. The Sinnes area in Sirdal, Rogaland, could see gusts up to 36 m/s.

Around 40 people, including crew and visitors, are currently at the Red Cross station in Sinnes. Some have delayed their return home until after the storm passes. Eirik Sivertsen, a representative at the station, emphasised that the team will prioritise safety.

“We follow the Norwegian Red Cross guidelines and will not take unnecessary risks,” Sivertsen said. “We’re staying indoors and preparing for a quiet day. Our main concern is that people might still venture out despite the warnings.”

Local authorities have already cancelled outdoor activities, and ski lifts in Sirdal have closed. Sivertsen urged the public to follow mountain safety rules and avoid outdoor trips on Sunday.

The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) has also warned hikers to avoid exposed areas. “This is a violent storm that can put people at risk,” said DNT director Henning Hoff Wikborg. “We advise delaying trips and staying indoors until conditions improve.”

At Haukeliseter mountain lodge, staff have informed guests about the weather. With 150 visitors on site, markedsansvarlig Anna Dypvik Sødahl stressed that Sunday is not a day for long hikes. “Wind gusts could reach 37 m/s. If people go out, they must have proper equipment—but this isn’t the day to cross open terrain.”

Rail operator Vy expects normal train services despite the storm, though the situation is being monitored closely.
