Storm Dave to bring strong winds and severe weather to Sweden over Easter
The British storm named Dave will move across Sweden on Easter Sunday, bringing powerful gusts and the risk of storm-force winds, according to meteorologists at Swedish public broadcaster SVT.
SVT meteorologist Nitzan Cohen warned of potential storm conditions, particularly in southwestern Sweden. A yellow weather alert—the lower of two warning levels—has been issued from the coastal area off Halmstad up to the Norwegian border for Easter Saturday.
“Right now, we can see there is a risk of inland storm gusts,” Cohen said. “At least in Bohuslän and parts of Dalsland and the Västgöta plains.”
The storm will also bring rain and snow, primarily affecting northwestern and northern Svealand before moving into parts of Norrland. A separate yellow alert for heavy snowfall has been issued for much of Värmland on Saturday, with the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) cautioning that travel times may increase due to slippery roads and poor visibility.
Windiest conditions expected on Sunday
The strongest winds will arrive on Sunday afternoon and evening, following a brief lull overnight. While the forecast suggests severe gusts, Cohen noted that conditions could ease before the storm hits.
“Wind speeds may still change—we’ll have to wait and see if it becomes as aggressive as current models suggest, or if reality turns out milder,” he said.
By Monday, winds will persist but weaken slightly.
Precautions advised for travel and coastal areas
Cohen recommended avoiding smaller roads in southern Sweden due to the risk of fallen trees, advising motorists to stick to larger routes where possible. SMHI’s coastal warnings urge mariners to prepare for high winds and consider whether sea travel is advisable.
