Finnish battery manufacturer Ioncor will begin layoff negotiations affecting its plants in Salo and Uusikaupunki, reports Salon Seudun Sanomat. The company cites reduced demand for contract-manufactured batteries due to declining car sales as the reason for the workforce reduction.

The planned cuts may affect up to 145 employees, with over 100 of those based in Salo. Ioncor currently employs around 1,100 people across six locations in Finland and Germany, including approximately 500 in Salo. This follows a previous round of layoffs just over a year ago.

Ioncor was previously part of Valmet Automotive, the Uusikaupunki-based car manufacturer, before its battery operations were spun off into a separate company in 2024.
